The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is responsible for formulating syllabus, curriculum and other academic related policies for both the SSC and HSC exams.
The Maharashtra State HSC Board is responsible for conducting the Higher Secondary Examinations for the students who have successfully cleared their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Exam.
The students enrolled in the Maharashtra HSC Board will have to write the MSBSHSE HSC or MSBSHSE Class 12. The HSC Maharashtra conducts the exam for streams such as Arts, Science, Commerce, and Minimum Competency Vocational Course (MCVC) streams. Nearly 1.5 million students from all across Maharashtra appear for the exams every year.
The number of students appeared for the HSC Maharashtra exam has increased a lot over the past few years. Though in 2015, the number of students dropped with a significant number, 2016 has shown an exponential increase in the number of enrolled students. The passing percent of Maharashtra State HSC exam has always been high over the recent years. Though the percent reduced slightly in 2016, it again increased significantly in 2017. But in the year 2018, it has gone down by 1.09%.

The performance of the students in HSC exam is remarkable with excellent passing percent every year. It is a noteworthy mention that in 2018, the passing percentage of boys is 85.23% while that of girls is 92.36%.
